Meg Drummond was known as the Snow Queen, a challenge to the gentlemen of the ton, for it was said she could freeze a man with a single glance of her green eyes. No one knew the icy castle walls were built to protect the vulnerable girl within. Meg didn’t trust easily, not after witnessing the fiery destruction of her parents’ marriage. Since she was a child she had only ever thought of one man in terms of happily ever after, and he had never returned her regard.
After leaving the Highlands, Meg managed to change from an awkward hoyden into the elegant lady her English mother expected her to be. Though she allowed her estranged father to believe she would marry an Englishman to spite him, she had no intention of ever allowing any man close enough to hurt her, until Alec MacLaren charged back into her life. She has loved the charming rogue since she was a child. Yet can she trust the wicked Highlander with her heart?
A hero of Waterloo, Alec owed Meg’s father his life. Although he had no desire for an arranged marriage, Alec kidnapped and married Meg out of his debt to Robert Drummond. Once he held Meg in his arms he realized there just might be something more to this marriage than he had expected. A suspicious tragedy had made him Earl of Dunleith. Alec doesn’t realize a murderer lurks in the shadows waiting to take everything from him.
After years of war Alec longs for a home and family. He knows he must break through the wall of ice surrounding Meg’s heart, gain her trust, and awaken her desire to truly make her his bride.

I really enjoyed this book! This is a second book in a series, and as I started to read it realized that I had purchased the first book a long time ago and never got around to reading it. After I was done with this one I quickly started to read the first book.
But this book can also be read as a stand alone. Meg and Alec grew up together. Her brother's were Alec's closes friends and she followed them around everywhere. Before Alec left for war, she confesses that she is in love with him. He is surprised to her this but gently turns her down as he has always seen her as a sister. She decides to wait for him and as years go she starts to be discouraged that he will not return. Once she hears he is back, she is angered that he does not come looking for her. The years of waiting have allowed her to build walls around her heart, and while very beautiful she is also an ice beauty that does not let anyone come near her heart.
Alec is sent by her father to kidnap her to prevent her from marrying an english man. Her father is estranged from her and her mom and wants to see her settled with someone of his choosing. Alec is surprised to see what a beauty she has grown into.
He is a heartbreaker with a boyish and naughtiness to him. She fights him every step of the way, still angered that he never came looking for her. They have a very good chemistry and while sometimes you just want to grab Meg and shake her, the story does keep you engaged and entertained.

MacLaren Bride The Heiresses Book 2 edition by Debra Dier Romance eBooks Reviews
Disclaimer I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest evaluation.
This book had a lot of action and emotion. Meg had a wealth of emotion and was human in her views and behavior. Too often authors create idealized heroines and heroes. Meg and Alec were flawed in their outlooks and actions. They were realistic but I was still rooting for her to get over being so stubborn.
The beginning was charming and engaging. Most of us can remember our teenage “crush” and still think about the “what if”. This opens up a human element to Meg that I could identify with. Instead of the past relationship of Meg and Alec being reduced to a couple of sentences, the first chapter gives a depth to the emotions that explain some of the actions later in the book.
However, I have to admit that I liked the ending of this book very much. I like knowing how the characters’ lives continue after the main story is ended. No spoilers, but I like the idea that they continue to live their lives.
Overall, this is a very enjoyable book with likable characters, a moving plot and just a little bit of naughty lust to keep things interesting.
I thoroughly loved and enjoyed reading the extraordinary and intriguing historical romance novel written and autographed by the Award Winning Author, Debra Dier. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Lady Margaret, Meg, is known as the Snow Queen in London. Meg has not seen Alec MacLaren since she was fifteen years old when she had foolishly told him she loved him. Alec is back from the war and has women throwing themselves at him and has not once come to see Meg. Meg's grandmother has an idea on how to get Meg's mother and father's estranged marriage back together. Meg has to pretend to want to marry an Englishman, Blanchard, who is only after her money. Instead of Meg's father coming to London, Meg is kidnapped by Alec and taken back to her father in Scotland. Her father has shocking marriage plans for Meg.
Read the beautifully written, captivating and engaging characters, riveting story line, wonderful love story of Meg and Alec.
Loved. this book. The Laird is a noble and honorable man who teaches his wife to trust in love again.
This is a re-edit of a previous Debra Dier book. According to the afterward, she edited so that the characters in some of her books that took place at the same time (Regency England) could meet and interact. Disclaimer I did not read the first book in the "series." Maybe if I had this book would have made more sense, but I assumed since it was originally written as a stand-alone novel that it should be able to work on its own still.
I hated this book. The plot seemed like someone took all the romance tropes (arrogant hero! icy lady! being stuck in a carriage together! kidnapping! ridiculous reasons for a marriage! emotional baggage from the war! emotional baggage from parents! love blossoming over someone's sickbed! a mystery that also needs to be solved! the heroine trying to save the hero from someone who wants to hurt him! English miss is SO OVER the ton and London Society), put them in a blender, and then threw it all into a single book. The characters had elaborate backstories that just served to add confusion, not depth of warmth. Things never seemed to happen for a reason - the plot was more "how can I make up a situation in which he would carry her over his shoulder" than "would this event make sense?". Sometimes several random events were strung together quickly with no flow, and other times nothing happened over several chapters except the heroine repeating to herself how she is SUPER ATTRACTED to the hero, but how she Just Can't Trust Men, and the hero trying to melt her Cold English Heart or calling her stubborn or overly-emotional. The sex scenes didn't add anything to the story, and sometimes didn't even make sense. And the soap-y, crazy aspects of the plot (TWO different people come back after having been declared dead) don't add to the fun like they might in the hands of someone else. They just add to the confusion.
And the writing. Don't get me on started on the writing. I saw the same phrases used over and over. The sex scenes often had no buildup and either used hackneyed euphemisms, or tried to shake up those overused phrases but ended up just being awkward (I think "her warm, wet feminine shaft" was used, which... why?). There were even editing errors like an entire paragraph being repeated at the end of two different chapters, and the hero's name was spelled wrong once or twice (his name was Alec, but one of the opening chapters had him as Alex). I found myself cringing many, many times from overused and overwrought phrases.
TL;DR terrible writing, nonsensical plot, bad sex scenes, really very little to recommend this book at all.
Good read, but a little too dramatic and drawn out for my taste.Did enjoy the tie up of characters at the end of the story.
I did not dislike it I thought it was a great book that's why I gave
I really enjoyed this book!
